Garment printing

From printed textiles to garments

One of the wishes from the pilot team was to print garments. We explored two directions: printing garment patterns (including print) on flat fabric, and printing on existing garments directly.

Printing garment patterns

The first test is a blackwork ferrous mordant print of a top. The only interactivity is the ink flow control.

The second version uses direct printing and is printed with two different colors.

Printing on existing garments

The other route we explored was printing directly on existing garments. This is mostly suited for small prints on larger surfaces like the front or back of a garment, and you cannot really do controlled all-over prints (although Michelle tried). The first prototype uses concentric circles in combination with interactive control of pressure of a watercolor brush onto the garment.

The second prototype uses parallel lines in combination with interactive control of sweeping a rectangular foam brush onto the garment.
