Expert session

Testing the HaptiColor workflows with external stakeholders

On March 5 2025, the Textilelab team invited textile printing and coding experts to experiment with the first HaptiColor prototypes. The experts were introduced to the pilot research and the steps taken so far.

The goal of this evening was to gather input and user feedback from textile printers, natural dyers and other experts on the current version of our HaptiColor hacked machine and workflows. How does it feel to interact with the hacked machine? Is it intuitive? Is it playful, annoying, confusing or fun? Are there alternative ways of working other than the ones we suggest? Together, we explored different levels of control over the printing process and different degrees of collaboration, depending on the needs and desires of the person printing.

Workflows

We explored two main workflows: physical interaction and digital design.

Sensorial intervention and digital design

In this video, you can see the two possible workflows in action. The first machine explores primarily sensorial intervention in the printing process, using simple designs like stripes. The second machine’s focus is on the digital design, testing the web interface to upload custom designs.
